Volterra is a hilltop town with Etruscan origins dating back over 2,500 years, making it one of Italy's oldest cities. Volterra is rich in artistic heritage to admire while strolling through the streets of the historic center and visiting the city's museums, such as the Etruscan Museum, the Pinacoteca, and the Museum of Sacred Art. The pulsating heart of the city is Piazza dei Priori, a charming urban lounge surrounded by historic buildings and dominated by the majestic Tower of the Podesta.

Volterra is renowned for its artistic and artisan tradition, with numerous workshops perpetuating ancient techniques of ceramics, glass, and gold craftsmanship. A visit to the artisans' workshops is a unique opportunity to admire the skill of master craftsmen and bring home authentic Tuscan treasures. Volterra is also renowned for the Marzuolo Truffle Fair and its rustic and genuine cuisine based on local tradition.

But Volterra is not just a city; it is also the ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding beauties of Tuscany. Within a short distance are charming medieval villages such as San Gimignano, with its famous towers, and Monteriggioni, surrounded by mighty medieval walls. The gentle hills surrounding Volterra are dotted with vineyards and olive groves, offering the opportunity to explore the Tuscan countryside in all its splendor.
