In the rolling Tuscan hills, in the beautiful area of Palaia, about 5 km from the town, we find this fascinating complex dating back to the thirteenth century which still retains traces of its past.
The first sources on the building date back to 980, in 1120 it became a monastery of the Carthusian monks of Calci and in 1209 it was granted to Otto IV as a fiefdom to the bishops of Lucca.
Alica Castle is a place full of energy given by those who lived there. It is a real estate complex of rare charm, dating back to the thirteenth century. which keeps intact the traces of its past of the alternation of different cultures and functions. During the 1300s it passed to the Gambacorti family but, during the Pisa insurrection, it was occupied and sacked by the Florentine army.
